FORALL – SPECIAL CUTLERY

2023

The ForAll Special Cutlery is the result of a collaborative partnership between ZON Design, UFCSPA [Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre], and Tramontina. The initial idea - a collection of assistive products - began in 2015, with the recognition of the need for household utensils suitable for the daily tasks of individuals with impairments, particularly those facing the challenges of Parkinson's Disease.

To ensure that the solution was a special cutlery, yet visually indistinguishable from normal cutlery, numerous studies, prototypes, and tests were conducted with voluntary Parkinson's patients. This is the distinguishing factor of ForAll assistive cutlery: a balance between functionality and aesthetics, ensuring a subtle and elegant design that helps reduce stigmatization and promotes inclusion.

Key features of the final product include:
• Comfort and stability during meals
• Autonomy and independence
• Social inclusion and quality of life

The research showed that both a plastic-handled cutlery and a version entirely made of stainless steel were competing for the preference of the target audience - with both versions being embraced by the manufacturer.

Additionally, the research highlighted the need for a case to store the cutlery, facilitating its transportation and promoting individual autonomy. Several tests and adjustments were made until the development of a case that was easy to open, safe, and practical to clean.

The chosen name for the special cutlery reflects the belief that opportunities, rights, and benefits should be accessible to every individual. "For All" means for everyone in English. The words were combined poetically to signify unity and collaboration. ForAll is much more than a simple expression; it is an invitation to inclusion, diversity, and equality.
