Vik cutlery

2023

It's possible to use less plastic in a cutlery with plastic handle. That was the premise behind the design of Vik Cutlery, a challenge regarding the minimal use of materials while maintaining a modern and technological aesthetic. Knife, fork, spoon, and dessert spoon are made of stainless steel with strategic details in polypropylene, positioning the product as a sustainable and comfortable option for a conscious audience.

The client has a diverse mix of utensils, ranging from everyday use with plastic handles to forged ones, entirely made of stainless steel for special occasions. However, Vik Cutlery fills an interesting gap in the market: it meets the demand for utensils with plastic handles [lightweight, versatile, with colors that harmonize with different occasions of use and environments] with the concept of elegance and sustainability.

It took two years of close collaboration with the client to successfully deliver Vik Cutlery to the market, without unnecessary costs. Research, insights, ideation, idea approval, and several prototyping stages were needed to achieve the best result. In addition to the product itself, we addressed its entire ecosystem: naming, packaging, and promotion.

With Vik Cutlery, ZON delivered to the client a product with greater perceived value in terms of aesthetics and sustainability.

In 2023, the project received the gold medal in Product Design at the BDA - Brazilian Design Award.
